What is necessary for making a bulb light? If a circuit doesn't work, what are some possible reasons?
ILS 12C#1 (Stage B): Constructing and testing simple electric circuits with batteries.
11A(3-5)#2: Something may not work as well (or at all) if a part of it is missing, broken, worn out, mismatched, or misconnected.
Teacher observations of students' ability to construct a closed circuit & class discussion of lesson (See step 5 on page 17 of the Teacher's Guide.)
- Are the students successful in lighting the bulb?
- To what extent do students understand that they need a closed circuit to make the bulb light? (This will be evident if they are able to light the bulb using alternative set-ups.)
12D(K-2)#2: Draw pictures that correctly portray at least some features of the thing being described.
12A(3-5)#1: Keep records of their investigations and observations and not change the records later.
Lab Journal (See step 6 on page 17 of the Teacher's Guide.)
- Do the pictures clearly show all components of the circuit (positive and negative ends of the battery, bottom and side metal parts of bulb, and the wire)?
- Do students keep their drawings organized and refrain from changing them without noting the change (for example, using a different color on the drawing to indicate a correction)?

2. Bolded sections indicate portion of benchmark addressed
3. Unless noted as a Summative Assessment, the assessments are formative and should be used to guide teaching and learning. |
